With the winter storm less than 24 hours away, Action News Jax is digging into how city officials are prepping for the possibility of icy roads, freezing rain, and even snow.
It’s clear a lot will be closing, including all Jacksonville city offices.

Duval County Public Schools are also set to be closed Wednesday and all after school events are canceled.
The University of North Florida, Edward Waters University, and Florida State College at Jacksonville have also canceled classes and will close their campuses Wednesday.
At least four city meetings originally scheduled for Wednesday have now been pushed back until Thursday.
Three warming centers will be opened, and trash pickup scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled for Saturday.

The Duval Clerk of Courts also announced court will be closed Wednesday.
Additionally, all Jacksonville Sheriff’s offices, including all six substations, will not be open Wednesday due to the storm.
Jacksonville International Airport is set to close Tuesday evening starting at 8 p.m. and will reopen at noon Wednesday.
“Travelers are encouraged to check flight status with their airlines for the most up-to-date information about their itineraries and for rebooking options,” a JIA spokesperson told Action News Jax in an emailed statement.

JTA announced the Skyway will begin operations late, starting at 9 a.m. instead of 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The Florida Department of Transportation is preparing for possible ice on the roads and bridges.
The state agency oversees the Hart, Mathews, Acosta, Dames Point, Fuller Warren, Buckman, and Main Street bridges.

“FDOT crews are ready to treat roadways as needed to prevent hazardous conditions and ensure safe travel,” an FDOT spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
FDOT is encouraging drivers to reduce speeds and increase following distances on the roads Wednesday.
