Jacksonville, FL. — The pandemic is not deterring one Jacksonville business owner from opening two new restaurants in Downtown Jacksonville.
Dwayne Beliakoff and his business partner own The Bread and Board, and they are adding another location Downtown in the Vystar Bank building, along with a small marketplace.
And on the rooftop, a Baja Mexican concept, Estrella Cocina.
When Dwayne Beliakoff left Jacksonville in 1998, downtown was vibrant. He moved out west before moving back to Florida and a very different Downtown.
“I think Jacksonville is desperate for these big fun projects.” Beliakoff said.
Estrella Cocina is spacious, offering indoor and outdoor seating, including fire pit seating, with city and river views.
The rooftop is large with standing room of up to 500 people, Beliakoff said he has had several requests to host weddings.
The menu is not finalized just yet, but Estrella plans to offer small plates, including a selection of ceviche, and a wide selection of margaritas.
They plan to offer as many as 10 different salsas. No menu item over the price of $14.
Beliakoff wants his spot to be a go to for happy hours Downtown.
Action News Jax asked Beliakoff about challenges of the location and opening during a pandemic.
“This Laura Street corridor is getting a lot of attention and a lot of energy.” Beliakoff said.
Estrella is down the street from the historic Laura street trio which is set to be redeveloped and the newly renovated Chase Bank Building.
Plans are also in the works for a new parking garage with retail space across the street from Estrella.
The restaurant is set to officially open in May 1st.
