Police responding to the Clientele Barbershop at about 6:17 p.m. CDT found that the front windows had been hit with bullets, KMSP reported. Inside the building, police found one man who had been killed, according to Minneapolis police spokesperson Garrett Parten.

The two people injured were taken to an area hospital and are expected to survive, WCCO reported.

“This is another cornerstone of a community -- a barbershop -- where people gather; not just to get their haircuts, but to communicate with one another, talk about their community, share ideas about how to make things better, or just talk about sports,” Parten told reporters during a news conference. “For a long time, it’s been a place of safety and an exchanging of ideas. You’ve got another (cornerstone) that has been shattered in the community that is losing more and more safe places to be.”

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the man’s name and the official cause of death at a later time, according to KARE-TV.

The motive for the shooting is unknown, Parten said.

The man’s death marks the 66th homicide of the year, according to a Star Tribune database, and the second reported Thursday.
