SPRING, Texas — An 81-year-old woman died Friday night after the ambulance she was being transported in crashed when a car ran a red light and slammed into the rescue vehicle.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the ambulance rolled over at least once after it was struck around 11 p.m., KTRK reported. A medic and driver were also inside the vehicle.
All three occupants of the ambulance were taken to a hospital, where the 81-year-old woman later died from her injuries, investigators said. Two people who were inside the car were also taken to hospitals. The driver of the car that crashed into the ambulance was in critical condition at the time of the accident. None of the victims’ conditions have been released.
The ambulance was equipped with a video camera. That footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
In all, 5 people had to be taken to the hospital. Deputies say the driver of a car ran a red light and slammed into the ambulance at TC Jester and Cypresswood. https://t.co/TnjyQKO4xq
