BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A 93-year-old Alabama woman who has served as a poll worker since 1963 will end her run after the 2020 election.
Martha Mae Ophelia Moon Tucker has worked in every election since 1963, WIAT reported. She is currently the chief inspector at her precinct.
“I didn’t work for this; I worked because it was right,” Tucker told city leaders who honored her last week. “I want to thank all of those who have worked with me and for me, and this let me know that my work has already spoke for me.”
The Birmingham city council declared Tuesday “Martha Mae Ophelia Tucker Day.”
