TOLEDO, Ohio — Police said Tuesday that they have recovered the body of a child believed to be 3-year-old Braylen Noble, days after he vanished from an apartment in Toledo, according to multiple reports.
Update 3:45 p.m. EDT Sept. 9: A police spokesman confirmed to the Toledo Blade that a child’s body had been found in a pool at the apartment complex where Braylen was last seen Friday.
The newspaper reported that authorities had previously searched the pool and found no sign of Braylen. Lt. Kelli Lenhardt told WTVG that searchers included the FBI, private search groups, fire and rescue personnel and K-9 units.
“At this point, it’s turned from a missing person investigation to a death investigation,” Lenhardt told the news station. “And it’s still a very active investigation.”
On Tuesday, authorities released audio from a 911 call in which Braylen’s grandmother, Bobbie Johnson, could be heard crying and telling an operator that the 3-year-old had fallen out of a window, according to the Blade and WNWO-TV. Johnson said Braylen had autism and was non-verbal. Family members had searched the entire apartment complex and nearby areas before calling authorities, she said.
Authorities continue to investigate.
Original report: Search crews in Ohio are looking for a missing toddler who vanished from a Toledo home last week, authorities said.
According to WTVG, Braylen Noble, 3, was last seen Friday in an apartment in the Hunter’s Ridge neighborhood. He was wearing a red-and-white Mickey Mouse T-shirt at the time, Toledo police said in a Facebook post.
When Noble was reported missing Friday afternoon, a 911 caller initially said the toddler may have fallen from a window, WTVG reported. Noble’s mother later denied that account, according to the news outlet.
