OXFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut mother is facing a second-degree manslaughter charge after her baby boy died from a drug overdose, authorities said.
According to WTIC and WVIT, Connecticut State Police arrested Rebecca Dixon, 35, on Tuesday, more than three months after authorities found her 11-month-old son unresponsive in her Oxford home on July 6. Emergency responders rushed the boy to a nearby hospital, where he died, officials said.
Dixon told officers that she and her son had fallen asleep together, but when she awoke, he was limp, according to court documents. Investigators “discovered evidence of recent narcotics usage” in the home, including “envelopes ... consistent with illicit opiate use,” the documents said.
Medical examiners later conducted an autopsy on the child, who died from homicide by “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of fentanyl and morphine, with recent cocaine exposure,” according to court documents. Dixon also tested positive for several drugs, including the three found in the child’s system, authorities said.
Dixon is being held on a $100,000 bond, WVIT reported.
