Coronavirus: Broadway star Nick Cordero has leg amputated due to COVID-19 complications

Broadway star Nick Cordero is recovering after having his right leg amputated following complications with the novel coronavirus, his wife confirmed Saturday.

The surgery came on the 18th day of Cordero’s sedation in an intensive care unit, where the Tony Award-nominated actor has been experiencing clotting issues in his right leg, CNN reported.

Cordero, who most recently starred in “Rock of Ages” in Hollywood, is recovering at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, his wife Amanda Kloots told the network.

“He made it through the surgery, which is really big because obviously his body is pretty weak,” Kloots shared on Instagram, adding, “Hopefully he’ll just kind of relax and rest.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, Cordero, 41, was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia in March and later tested positive for the coronavirus. His breathing has been assisted by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Kloots also told her social media followers that the blood thinners Cordero was prescribed to combat the clotting issues began to adversely affect his blood pressure and resulted in internal bleeding, prompting Saturday’s surgery.

Cordero was nominated for a Tony Award in 2014 for his role as Cheech in “Bullets Over Broadway,” and he has also appeared in Broadway productions of “Waitress” and “A Bronx Tale.”
