Coronavirus: Target joins other retailers adjusting hours, allowing seniors, at-risk customers to shop

Target is the latest retailer that is allowing seniors and people with health concerns to shop on their own without having to brave crowds.

Store officials announced that starting this week, the retailer will allow an hour a week each Wednesday for shoppers with health concerns or the elderly to visit the store, USA Today reported.

The company is urging other shoppers to reconsider shopping during that time.

Target will also close nightly at 9 p.m. starting Wednesday to give time for cleaning and restocking, the company said in a press release.

Stores are adding more staff for Order Pickup and Drive Up services to help aid in social distancing.

Target is not the only store adjusting its shopping hours to help prevent senior citizens from being exposed to the virus.

Dollar General is opening its stores for the first hour to seniors.

Whole Foods announced Tuesday it will be opening its first hour to shoppers 60 and older.

Albertsons-owned stores like Safeway and Tom Thumb stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday for seniors and others considered at-risk.

Fresh Market will allow seniors to shop for the store’s first open hour Monday through Friday.
