Cuban Embassy shooting: Man arrested after shots fired toward embassy in D.C., police say

WASHINGTON — Authorities arrested a man early Thursday after police said he opened fire outside the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C.

According to WJLA and WTTG, the incident occurred after 2 a.m. on 16th Street Northwest. Citing D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department and witnesses, WJLA reported that a man wielding an “assault-style rifle” fired multiple shots toward the embassy.

In a statement released Thursday morning, Cuban officials said the shooting caused “material damage to the building.” Nobody was hurt, authorities said.

The gunman, who was not immediately identified, was arrested on charges of assault with the intent to kill, unregistered ammunition, possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of a high-capacity magazine, Secret Service officials told The Washington Post.
