Former NBA guard Anthony Morrow accused of assaulting woman in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former NBA guard Anthony Morrow is accused of assaulting and kidnapping a woman in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, authorities said.

Morrow, 37, who played nine years in the NBA from 2008 to 2017, is facing charges of assault on a female, assault by strangulation, communicating threats and second-degree kidnapping, according to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

He was arrested and booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on Feb. 10 and posted $15,000 bail two days later, online records show.

An arrest warrant stated that Morrow allegedly strangled the victim by “squeezing her neck with his hands,” according to WSOC-TV. The warrant also stated the victim, who was dating Morrow at the time, had “scratches on the right side of her neck, a cut lip, and abrasions on her forehead.”

Morrow’s attorney told WSOC in a statement that his client “denies these allegations.”

“He has faith in our justice system and has every confidence that a review of the evidence will reveal that he is not guilty,” the attorney said.

Morrow, who was named North Carolina’s “Mr. Basketball” in 2004 while playing at Charlotte Latin High School, played college basketball at Georgia Tech, according to Pro-Basketball-Reference.com.

In the NBA, Morrow played mostly in a backup role for the Golden State Warriors, New Jersey Nets, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Marvericks, New Orleans Pelicans, Oklahoma CIty Thunder and the Chicago Bulls.
