SAN ANTONIO — An Amazon driver in Texas is recovering after he said he was attacked by a dog while making a delivery on Monday.
According to police, Jose Luis “Trey” Rodriguez, 22, was dropping off a package in San Antonio at about 11:15 a.m. CDT when he was attacked, KSAT-TV reported.
Police said a Staffordshire Terrier jumped over the fence and bit Rodriguez in the face, according to KENS-TV.

“As soon as I look up, all I see is a dog just jumping over,” Rodriguez told KSAT. “He just started attacking me right then and there.”
Rodriguez said the dog’s owner attempted to stop the attack, but the dog was persistent.
“I think the most traumatizing was seeing my lips and my chin on the ground,” Rodriguez told the television station.
The owner surrendered the dog to Animal Care Services, the San Antonio Express-News reported. The agency confirmed that the animal was euthanized later Monday, according to the newspaper.
“If the animal is owner surrendered it then is completely up to ACS if we’re going to seek adoption or if we’re not,” ACS spokesperson Shannon Sims told KENS.
Rodriguez was rushed to an area hospital and received stitches.
“I literally thought I was going to die,” he told KSAT.
Richard Rocha, a spokesperson for Amazon told KENS that the company provides delivery partners with dog avoidance training. Drivers are not required to deliver a package if they believe they are in an unsafe situation, he said.
“This is a horrible incident and we’re grateful the driver was able to call for help and quickly receive medical attention,” Rocha said in a statement. “We’re in contact with the delivery partner to make sure the driver has all the support needed as he recovers.”
According to Animal Care Services, the owner is facing four criminal citations: Not having a current rabies vaccination, the dog being off-property, not having the required microchip and for the dog bite, KSAT reported.
