SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — A man was seriously injured Saturday in an apparent explosion inside the same Utah home where police found a cache of weapons and explosives in July.
Deputy fire chief Ryan Lessner with the South Jordan Fire Department told Fox News that firefighters arrived at the South Jordan home and found a middle-aged man with severe lower leg injuries.
Authorities have not publicly identified the victim, but the home was raided in July after its owner, Ryan McManigal, was arrested for manufacturing explosives and on suspicion of firing a weapon at police officers. Investigators reportedly found bomb-making materials, weapons and more than 4,700 rounds of ammunition in the home at that time, and McManigal remains in Salt Lake County Jail on those charges, the network reported.
Ryan McManigal’s sister, Bridget McGanigal Black, told KSTU that her cousin Jacob had been working on repairs at the South Jordan home when what she believes was a homemade bomb went off.
“He threatened me that he was going to set up booby traps,” Black told the TV station. “He told me that he was going to set up booby traps in my mom’s house in Vegas, so it doesn’t come as a surprise to me that he would do this in his own home.”
Lessner told KUTV that it appears an explosion of some kind occurred inside the South Jordan home, but there was no active fire when first responders arrived, but the bomb squad was called in because of the department’s history with the property.
