CORTLAND, N.Y. — A New York man was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison after he admitted to recording himself raping a 3-year-old girl, a judge ruled Tuesday.
According to a federal complaint, Christopher M. Perry, 36, of Cortland, pleaded guilty in April to two counts of conspiring to sexually exploit, and sexually exploit, a child under five years of age for the purpose of producing images of the abuse.
Perry and his girlfriend, Sarah R. Gates, 38, were arrested in April 2019 after investigators found photographs and videos of the abuse on Perry’s phone, WSTM reported.

According to federal prosecutors, Perry admitted that he and Gates “performed sexual acts” on the child on “several” occasions in 2017 while taking photographs of the abuse with two cellphones, the television station reported.
The activities of Perry and Gates were originally flagged after Perry uploaded an image of child pornography to Facebook’s servers in 2018, the Syracuse Post-Standard reported.
Perry originally faced up to 90 years in prison, the newspaper reported.
Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas McAvoy also ruled that after Perry serves his sentence, he must serve a 15-year term of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender, the Post-Standard reported.
The case against Gates is still pending, the newspaper reported.
