GREELEY, Colo. — A man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after nearly 6,000 fentanyl pills were seized in Weld County, Colorado, officials say.
The Weld County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release that Andrew Durdy, 27, was sentenced on Dec. 21 by Weld District Court Judge Timothy Kerns to 40 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
In October, Durdy pleaded guilty to a count of conspiracy to possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl and a count of possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl, according to the Weld County district attorney.
Durdy was under investigation last year when he sold fentanyl to undercover officers, the Weld County District Attorney said, according to KDVR.
Three packages sent from California by Durdy were reportedly intercepted by investigators. According to KDVR, the packages had fentanyl in them.
The Weld County Drug Task Force seized about 5,800 fentanyl pills during their investigation, according to KCNC.
“This was a conservative count,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Pirraglia told the judge during the sentencing hearing, per the news release. “Any one of those pills could have killed someone. Bottom line, he made a profit off destroying other people’s lives, and we won’t tolerate this type of behavior in our community.”
No further information has been released.
