Police: Boy Scout makes threat with rifle on social media to New York middle school

WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Authorities in upstate New York are investigating a social media post that showed a Boy Scout threatening a middle school with a rifle while at an event on Saturday.

The boy was at Fort Drum for a Scouts BSA Mountain Challenge event, the Syracuse Post-Standard reported. The event exposes non-military children to local military groups, according to the Watertown Police Department.

Police said the video shows the boy making a threat to Case Middle School in Watertown, the Post-Standard reported.

People who saw the captioned video reported it to authorities, WSYR-TV reported. The age of the juvenile depicted in the video was unclear, and his exact words were also unclear.

The individuals involved with the social media post have been identified and are being interviewed, according to the Post-Standard.

Police said extra security measures will be implemented as a cautionary measure.

The FBI, state police, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with the investigation, police said.
