Recall alert: Melissa’s Dutch Red Potatoes recalled over undeclared allergen

Selected lots of a red potato product have been voluntarily recalled because it contains undeclared egg allergens, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday.

In a news release, the FDA said that World Variety Produce Inc., based in Vernon, Georgia, is recalling 1-pound, 1.7-ounce packages of Melissa’s Dutch Red Potatoes with Dijon Mustard.

The product was sold across 14 states, including Arizona, California, Florida, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

The UPC code for the product is 0-45255-15221-0. The product also has “best buy” dates in 2020 that include Aug. 15, Aug. 20, Aug. 22, Aug. 29, Sept. 2, Sept. 5, Sept. 11, Sept. 18, Sept. 26, Oct. 1 and Oct. 9, the FDA said.

According to the FDA, people who are allergic or have a severe sensitivity to eggs are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product, the FDA said in its release.

No illnesses have been reported to date, the agency stated.

Consumers who have bought the product are urged to destroy it and throw it away. Customers with questions can call World Variety Produce at 1-800-588-0151, on Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT.
