U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Thursday that she is engaged to her longtime partner, Riley Roberts.
Ocasio-Cortez, 32, a two-term representative from New York, and Roberts, a marketing professional, met more than a decade ago when both were attending Boston University, WNBC-TV reported.
“It’s true! Thank you all for the well wishes,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.

“We got engaged last month in my family’s hometown in Puerto Rico,” Ocasio-Cortez told a Business Insider reporter via a direct message on Twitter, according to People. “No future details yet, we’re taking some space to savor this time before diving into planning.”
Roberts appeared in a 2018 political documentary and discussed his support for Ocasio-Cortez’s career, according to The Associated Press.
Ocasio-Cortez has kept a high profile on social media, with nearly 13 million followers on Twitter and more than 8 million on Instagram, but she has normally kept details of her romantic life quiet, The Hill reported.
The news of the couple’s engagement comes as Ocasio-Cortez admitted she had a “health issue” during the past week, Rolling Stone reported.
“I’m back at it today but was MIA for a bit to recover. Just wanted to provide you all some assurance that the silence wasn’t political or anything as I know that worried some,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Instagram. “Don’t worry, it wasn’t COVID and I’m fine now.”
