“We believe that this was a robbery gone bad,” Officer Mark Beseda told the Times, adding only that a car that did not belong to Hassell was taken during the deadly confrontation.
Hassell, 30, best known for his roles in the Oscar-nominated “The Kids Are All Right” and NBC’s “Surface,” was shot in his stomach during the robbery, his manager Alan Mills confirmed to NBC News.
According to Mills, the actor was outside his girlfriend’s apartment at around 1 a.m. when the shooting occurred, but she was indoors at the time and did not witness the crime, the network reported.
