He was a boy, she was a girl -- and now they are engaged.
Pop singer Avril Lavigne announced her engagement to musician Mod Sun in an Instagram post on Thursday, “Today” reported. It was only fitting that Mod Sun, 35, whose real name is Derek Smith, popped the question in the City of Love -- Paris -- while on a cruise down the Seine on March 27.
Lavigne, 37, whose hits include “Complicated,” “Sk8er Boi” and “Girlfriend,” told People it was “the most perfect, romantic proposal I could ever ask for.”
“We were in Paris on a boat in the Seine River. We had a violin player, champagne and roses,” Lavigne told the magazine. “It felt like time stood still, and it was just the two of us in the moment.”
“Oui! Je t’aime pour toujours Dimanche. 27. Mars. 2022,” Lavigne wrote in her caption, which translates to, “Yes! I love you forever. Sunday. March 27, 2022.”
Mod Sun responded in the comments, writing, “I love u so much! Forever n ever my angel.”
Mod Sun included more photographs and a message in a post on his Instagram account.
“The day we met I knew you were the one. Together forever til our days are done,” he wrote. “I had a dream where I proposed in Paris. I pulled out a ring and asked you to wear it. I was on one knee as I looked in your eyes. You’re too beautiful for my words to describe.
“I grabbed your hand and took one last breath … I said ‘Will you marry me?’ and she said ‘Yes.”
Lavigne’s ring was a custom design featuring a heart-shaped diamond in a royal setting with smaller hearts circling it, “Today” reported. It was made by XIV Karats in Beverly Hills, according to the news show.
Lavigne and Sun met while working on her latest album, “Love Sux,” CNN reported. The Canadian-born singer begins touring at the end of April, and Mod Sun will be one of her supporting acts, according to the news network.
