Spirit Airlines is now spelling out exactly what passengers can and cannot wear or show when flying the friendly skies.

The airline updated its contract of carriage that warned passengers that they are no longer allowed to wear clothing that may be deemed offensive and they may have to cover up some tattoos, CNN reported.

Passengers may be barred from boarding or may asked to leave a flight if they are “barefoot or inadequately clothed, or whose clothing or article, including body art, is lewd, obscene, or offensive in nature.”

Inadequate clothing can be clothing that is see-through or does not cover someone fully.

Most of the prohibitions are not new, just better defined in the contract of carriage which was updated earlier this week. The contract however now applies to body art, USA Today reported.

In October two passengers were asked to leave a flight because of the clothing they were wearing at the time – crop tops. At the time the company said, “Our Contract of Carriage, a document all Guests agree to upon making a reservation with us, includes certain clothing standards for all Guests traveling with us,” USA Today reported.

But it isn’t a rule that is only in play on Spirit. CNN reported other airlines have also prohibited passengers from flying because of the clothing they were wearing. A woman on an American Airlines flight in 2019 was wearing a strapless romper and was told she couldn’t fly unless she covered up.

Several media outlets including NBC News and Fox Business have reached out to Spirit Airlines for comment but have not heard back as of Friday.
