Target to increase minimum wage to $15, give some employees $200 coronavirus bonus

Target is planning to increase minimum wage to $15 and will give out $200 coronavirus bonuses to essential employees, the retailer said Wednesday.

The company will raise the starting wage to $15 on July 5, and the bonus will be given out to full- and part-time hourly workers at the end of July.

“Everything we aspire to do and be as a company builds on the central role our team members play in our strategy, their dedication to our purpose and the connection they create with our guests and communities,” Brian Cornell, chair and CEO, said in a statement.

The company has gradually raised the starting wage from $11 to $15 an hour after it announced a plan to raise the starting wage in 2017.
