MADISONVILLE, Tenn. — An East Tennessee man who demanded to go to jail apparently had a change of heart when deputies attempted to arrest him, authorities said.
Christopher James Fordham, 34, of Madisonville, was charged with assault on an officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
Shortly after 2 p.m. on Jan. 28, Monroe County sheriff’s deputy Billy Carson said he responded to a call about a man throwing rocks at cars while trying to stop them, The Advocate & Democrat of Madisonville reported.
Carson said he confronted Fordham, who “became very aggressive” and then said he wanted to go to jail, the newspaper reported.
After speaking with Fordham for several minutes, Carson attempted to arrest Fordham, who allegedly charged the officer, The Advocate & Democrat reported.
Carson said that he hit Fordham on the jaw after the man attempted to strike him, the newspaper reported.
After a few moments, Fordham followed the deputy’s instructions and was taken to the Monroe County Jail.
A dog that had been in Fordham’s possession was taken to the Monroe County Animal Shelter, according to The Advocate & Democrat.
