SAN ANTONIO — A Texas man accused of fatally striking a 67-year-old man with a shovel was indicted for murder, prosecutors said Friday.
The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release Friday that Miguel Garcia Gonzalez, 32, was indicted for the death of Frank Hammonds.
According to the indictment, Gonzalez “intentionally and knowingly” caused Hammonds’ death on June 13, 2021, after striking him multiple times with a shovel.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, an argument between Gonzalez and Hammonds led to the older man’s death, KSAT reported.

Hammonds was found with injuries to his head and upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene in southern Bexar County, the television station reported.
According to the sheriff’s office, Gonzalez fled the scene but was found in an area south of San Antonio, KSAT reported.
Gonzalez struggled with deputies but was Tased by deputies, the television station reported.
If convicted, Gonzalez faces a jail term between five to 99 years or a life sentence.
