BOSTON — Boston is known for its landmarks but one of them is for sale — the “Skinny House.”
Located in the city’s North End, the house, which is less than 10 feet wide but climbs four stories, is on the market for $1.2 million.
The home is what is called a spite house.
“The story is that there were two brothers who owned a piece of land, and one of the brothers built a bigger complex on the land and left the other brother a very small portion, while he was away at war.” Travis Sachs of CL Properties told the “Today” show.
The brother who left came home from the Civil War and saw that he was left with a sliver of property, so he built a narrow home that would block his brother’s house’s views and sunlight.
The house was last up for sale in 2017 for $895,000, WFXT reported at the time. Over the years, the house has housed a family, roommates, and even a single person. It also was home to renters and was an Airbnb recently, “Today” reported.
The home has 1,165 square feet of living space on .01 acres or about 435.6 square feet of land, according to the listing.

The realtors said the home has a “unique floor plan, manicured gardens and a private roof deck with unobstructed harbor and city views.”
The home has a total of five rooms, two of which are bedrooms, one full bathroom and a full-size kitchen with custom cabinets and updated appliances, the listing states.
