DECATUR, Ala. — An Alabama boy was wounded Tuesday morning when he shot himself in the leg while in a supermarket parking lot, authorities said.
A spokesperson for the Decatur Police Department said the boy was left unattended in a vehicle while his parents were shopping at a Publix grocery store, AL.com reported. At about 11:52 a.m., the boy came into possession of the gun, which was loaded, and fired a round, the website reported. One of the bullets penetrated his leg.
According to the police spokesperson, the child was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released, WAFF reported.
Police did not release any other information, including the boy’s age.
