UPS driver finds man frozen to death in front of Michigan home

CAMBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The body of an 80-year-old man was found frozen to death in front of his Michigan home Wednesday by a UPS driver.

Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Larry Rothman confirmed to The Daily Telegram in Adrian that the UPS employee contacted Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers on Dec. 16 at about 6:15 p.m. to report a person in the roadway outside his Knapp Road residence.

State police troopers reportedly found Richard Theodore Kokochak lying in a curved driveway near his car, and Rothman said the man’s body temperature indicated he had been there – not visible from the road – for at least two days, the newspaper reported.

“He was in a position where (passersby) would have been unable to really see him unless they were really looking for him,” Rothman said.

According to police, Kokochak lived in the house with his partner, who was hospitalized at the time, and investigators believe the death was either the result of an accident or a health problem, MLive reported.

“At this point, there’s no concern for any public safety issues or anything like that,” Rothman told the Telegram, noting the Lenawee County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy.
