LOS ANGELES — Viola Davis has secured her EGOT status following her Grammy Award win Sunday for her memoir audiobook narration.
EGOT status requires one to have won an Academy Award, Emmy Award, Tony Award, and Grammy Award. EGOT stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, according to People Magazine.
Davis, 57, won her Grammy Award Sunday for best audiobook, narration, and storytelling recording for her memoir, “Finding Me.”
It was the first Grammy for Davis. She has won an Oscar, two Tonys, and an Emmy, according to NBC News.
She won the Emmy in 2015 for the TV series “How to Get Away With Murder,” an Oscar for “Fences” in 2017, and a Tony for both “King Hedley II” in 2001 and “Fences” in 2010,” according to NPR.
“Oh, my God! I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, everything,” Davis began in her acceptance speech. “And it has just been such a journey. I just EGOT!”
Only 18 people have reached EGOT status, according to NBC News. Some of the others who have won all four awards include Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, Liza Minnelli, James Earl Jones, Barbra Streisand and Rita Moreno, according to People Magazine.
