Nancy Shedleski is also accused of continuing to collect her husband’s Social Security benefits after his 2015 death, The Associated Press reported.

The criminal complaint filed in Nevada last week alleges she deposited $121,000 in retirement benefits, KLAS reported.

Social Security officials were tipped off in 2019 that her husband had disappeared. They said the administration was never told of her husband’s death so it continued to deposit the money, KLAS reported.

Officials tried to contact her husband that year, but did not receive a response until she returned repeated messages, telling officials that she and her husband lived together in Las Vegas, KLAS reported.

Shedleski has been charged with the theft of government money, the AP reported.

When federal officials first contacted Shedleski, she told them that her husband was traveling, but later said that he died at their home in Pennsylvania, after which she dismembered his body and disposed of the remains.

The criminal complaint did not say how her husband died or where exactly in Pennsylvania they lived before his death, but he had last received medical care in 2015 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Jefferson Hills near Pittsburgh, the AP reported.

Shedleski moved to Las Vegas in 2017.

Shedleski was arrested last week and was released on her own recognizance. She said she used the money for “her own personal living expenses,” the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
