NEW INFORMATION: ‘Violent’ man removed from flight at Jacksonville International Airport

'Violent' man removed from Delta flight Passengers say he became angry when his wife and child were asked to get off the plane because their child was too big to sit in their lap.

Jacksonville, FL — Action News Jax has obtained the arrest report for the man removed from a Delta Air Lines flight on Friday afternoon.

The man has been identified as Michael Costa of Jacksonville.

Costa, 42, was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on several charges including disorderly intoxication, making threats, resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement officer.

According to the arrest report, Costa became upset on the plane after a flight attendant escorted his wife off the plane to purchase another ticket for their child.

A passenger told us a flight attendant said their child was too big to sit in their lap.

Once the woman and child got off the plane, passenger Michelle Evenson said Costa began to yell.

She said, “This guy came up to the front telling passengers, ‘Sorry, I can’t leave without my child and wife.’ And then the person we were sitting by said, ‘Hurry up. We gotta get going.’ And then, all of a sudden, he started yelling and swearing.”

The incident was caught on video. It shows the suspect trying to punch another man on the plane.

Once he was escorted off the plane, police say Costa spat in an officer’s face.

He was arrested on state charges. Federal charges could come later.
