First Alert Weather Day: Jax River Jams will continue rain or shine despite inclement weather

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 11:46 a.m.- Action News Jax’s Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh provided the following weather updates:

• band of early morning heavy rain moving northward
• breaks in the clouds thereafter with only isolated showers or thunderstorms through early afternoon
• a band of heavy, potentially strong/severe storms at approximately 3-6pm spreading from southwest to northeast

Action News Jax’s First Alert Weather Team announced that on-and-off showers, storms and strong winds are expected throughout the day Thursday.

In his forecast this morning, Action News Jax meteorologist Corey Simma is reporting mild temperatures with some humidity and breeze. Rain is coming up from South and Central Florida and is expected to bring showers later in the morning, primarily along the coast. They are expected to linger through mid-day.

Simma predicts that bands of showers and storms will track across the area in the afternoon and evening. Some of those storms will be severe and will sync up with everyone’s evening commute, so drivers are advised to use caution, keep an eye on the sky and stay weather aware.

Another band of showers will track through on Friday as temperatures begin to climb. Rain is only expected to affect the weekend on Sunday before it clears out, temperatures drop and the sun returns beginning next week.

Action News Jax got word from WOKV that Jax River Jams will happen tonight rain or shine. Downtown Vision’s CEO said organizers will watch out for dangerous conditions like lightning and high winds, but otherwise, Shaggy is all systems go!
