Bliss Zechman, Action News Jax

Reporter/Anchor

Bliss Zechman is an anchor and reporter for Action News Jax. She joined the news team in May 2026. Previously, Bliss worked at NewsChannel 9 in Chattanooga where she advanced from reporter to weekend morning anchor and then full-time morning anchor during her more than eight years at the station. Her coverage of the devastating Easter Sunday tornado outbreak in April 2020 led to an interview with Good Morning America, while her reporting on a deadly roadside shooting spree resulted in an appearance on Dr. Phil as a journalism expert. Bliss began her journalism career in Helena, Montana, as a political reporter for Cowles Montana Media, covering state government from the Capitol. There, she covered Gov. Steve Bullock’s presidential run, visits from President Donald Trump, and former President Joe Biden. She earned her degree in Communications from the University of Tennessee in 2017 and received several distinctions during her time there, including a scholarship to study abroad in Sydney, Australia, through Tennessee’s pilot program for communication students. She was also selected to represent the university in Arizona State University’s News21 program where she investigated water quality issues before graduating in the top 10 of her graduating class. Bliss is the recipient of multiple awards from the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters, including honors for her report on snakes invading a North Georgia family’s home and for her work as an anchor on Good Morning Chattanooga. Candidly though, her favorite award she's received is the Judge’s Choice Mirror Ball for tangoing her way to the top of a Chattanooga-area non-profit’s Dancing with the Stars 2023 competition, raising thousands for the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Ocoee Region. She was thankful to emcee the event the following year and is honored to have helped the Chattanooga community at large, volunteering and collaborating with a variety of nonprofits. Passionate about storytelling and public service, Bliss is committed to delivering the stories that matter most to families across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. Nothing is more valuable to her, nor is she prouder of any role, than being a mother to her daughter Philomena. Outside of work, Bliss, husband Garrett and daughter "Pippy" enjoy collecting shells on the beach, thrifting, supporting local theater productions, walking their four dogs, and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers.
